European Heritage Label: General Library of the University of Coimbra (Portugal)

European significance: unique library culture with exceptional holdings, Joanina is one of the best examples of Baroque library buildings, always provided public access to its holdings, one of the first libraries in Europe to provide subject catalogues (1743-1748), continued to collect and provide access to books forbidden during the Salazar regime
