European Heritage Label: Camp Westerbork (Netherlands)

Year: 2013
European significance: gives testimony to a period of the history of the Netherlands between pre- and post-World War II in Europa, began as a camp for Jewish refugees from Central Europa, then became a Nazi deportation camp, later used to imprison the Nazis awaiting trial, at the end of the 1960's it provided temporary accommodation to Dutch people who had to leave the West Indies at the end of the colonization period, it supports the "Culture of Peace and Reconciliation" through shared European memories.
