European significance: written in 1844, only published in 1848 after the abolishment of censorship in the Habsburg Empire, influence in the developement of Slovenian identity, promotion of freedom of expression, re-printed in 1944 by partisans resisting Nazi-fascism, sung on various occasions after the end of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, national anthem of Slovenia, expresses the ideal of a peaceful co-existence of all nations, representative of 1848, promotes an international inclusive spirit rarely found in a national anthem, improves awareness of the importance of the heritage of European literature and languages
