European Heritage Label: Pan-European Picnic Memorial Park (Hungary)

Year: 2014
European significance: place where a picnic aimed at strengthening the friendship between Hungary and Austria was organised on 19 August 1989 when the border was opened symbolically for a few hours, this form of "picnic" became instrumental in causing the collapse of the Iron Curtain in Europa, strong symbol of the end of the Cold War and of a borderless Europa in the collective memory of Central European nations
